FLUXJOB call for artists – due December 31, 2013 Minnesota Center for Book Arts (MCBA) seeks art for inclusion in a curated exhibition that will feature contemporary artists working in the spirit of Fluxus. In the 1960s, George Maciunas urged a small group of artists to purge the world of bourgeois sickness and dead art. The result was Fluxus, a non-movement that expanded the definitions of what art can be. Fluxjob will be an exploration of contemporary artists who continue to create interdisciplinary anti-art that is ephemeral, inexpensive, and interactive. The exhibition will be presented in MCBA’s main gallery February 7 to July 6, 2014. All media and formats are welcome. This includes, but is not limited to: offset publications, magazines, assemblings, zines, boxed sets, games, posters, prints, mail art, drawings, digital works, democratic multiples, performance scores and artists’ books in their many forms. There is no entry or participation fee. Selected artists will be responsible for all shipping costs. The exhibition is being co-curated by Jeff Rathermel, MCBA’s Executive Director and noted Fluxus artist, publisher and performer Keith Buchholz. There is no entry or participation fee. Selected artists will be responsible for all shipping costs. a Fluxus Manifesto

the actual passage was not as expected
flim flam
canisters
dj vibrations and flugelhorn
these analog conundrums stimulate the rounder digits
they are gleaming thoroughfares
sending us back to reverse
if not then,  and again
then a return movement
then a blasted interval
then a torque and release

To reconcile that which is prescribed to that which is chaotic, free to happen.  The joy of Artmaking.  Fresh and adventuresome.  Beauty of an idea turned into a verb with a license to do the opportunistic and the silly.  Use of materials common to our everyday experience.  Turned on its head, turned around, turned inside out, turned away.  Spun.  Curious with what can happen now, in singularity, in multiples, in responses.  Questions the expected art practices. An experience of ideas. Theatrical activity welcomed.  A possibility to engineer a degree of tension and surprise.

I spoke with Chris about the box and show for clarification and agreed to post this update on fluxlist. Ginny

All work displayed will go into the Flux box and will become part of the gallery’s perm collection. He says a list of artists will be sent out.
