I wish I had thought of it, too. There have surely been many variations on this theme. How I came to this particular variation is as follows: I participated in the pose-with-a-letter-in-a-bikini project recently organized on neofluxlist and posted in several variations here and here. I took that picture and printed it out on a sheet of magnet paper. I cut out the outline of my body and put it on my refrigerator. It reminded me of those old 2-dimensional paper dolls with the tabbed paper clothes. So I decided to produce a picture of myself clothed holding the letter--to cut out and put over the bikini-wearing one. Then I decided I would also need to redo the picture of me holding the letter U. Then I decided that as long as I was at it, I might as well do all the letters of F-L-U-X-U-S. Then I got the idea for the title: "A Brief History of Fluxus" (latter I realized that this was a convenient pun with appearing in briefs and boxer shorts). Then I decided I should make it about "Fluxus Midwest" (I'm tired of regular/old/fluxus and tired of promoting it). Then I dealt with selecting and printing the letters. While doing that, I decided I should vary my underwear...and my expression...and my eye glasses, too. Finally, I choreographed the shoot and begged my reluctant wife to shoot it.
